Obama signs bill ending ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’

DADT RepealedPresident Obama signed legislation repealing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy that forced gay and lesbian service members to hide their sexual orientation.

Obama encourages all those who left the service because of the policy to re-enlist.  The president also said that military recruiters will be actively seeking new gay recruits.  The various branches of the Armed Forces will be setting up recruiting booths at Gay Pride rallies as a result of the new enlistment effort.

Festivities are planned in the next few weeks to celebrate the lifting of the controversial policy.  The Obama family will be attending the 82nd Airborne Thespian Society’s production of La Cage Aux Folles tonight, kicking off the first of many celebrations.
