Corpus Fructuarius, a body farm located in the heart of California’s wine country, has announced that they will start marketing top soil, a byproduct of human decomposition.
A body farm is a research facility where human decomposition can be studied in a variety of settings. Dr. Frank Gross, CEO of Corpus Fructuarius, claims that the soil around a fully decomposed human is the most fertile available. So great and so rare that a cubic yard of the yet-to-be-named product will sell for $250 per cubic yard, about 10 times the normal price. Dr. Gross expects to sell out of every batch.
A local winery, which Dr. Gross declined to name, has been testing the top soil in its vineyard for the past three years for grapes used in its Vintage Reserve Zinfandel. Connoisseurs have widely proclaimed the wine to be the best the vineyard has ever produced. At a retail price of $2,500 per bottle, it is a very exclusive club. Due to the steep price of the top soil, Dr. Gross expects that only high end vineyards will purchase the product.
Dr. Gross expects some public backlash, but has assured that all revenue from the sale of the top soil will fund human decomposition research and take it to the next level.
