Obama removes “under God” from Pledge of Allegiance

Obama Pledge of AllegianceAfter an hour long meeting with leaders from a variety of religions, President Obama signed an Executive Order removing “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance starting July 4th, 2010.

Citing bickering among the various religious leaders, President Obama said the move was a bid to “unite the country”.  There was immediate outrage from Republicans and the Religious Right.  “We’re not going to allow a Kenyan-born Muslim  to remove ‘under God’ from the Pledge of Allegiance,” screamed an unidentified passerby at the Focus On the Family campus in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Congressional Republicans promised to start impeachment proceedings.

President Obama defended his decision at a news conference.  “The Muslims wanted ‘praise Allah’ in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Buddhists ‘namaste’, the feminists ‘under Goddess’,  and the Pagans insisted on ‘under The Divine’.  Then the Baptists started to throw a tantrum and speak in tongues.  It was just more than a Brother can handle,” reflected a clearly frazzled Obama.
